Emma (Hale) Smith

Joseph Smith stayed with the Hale family for a time while he worked for Emma's father. It was during that time that they began to grow close to one another. Although Emma's father opposed to Emma marrying Joseph, she still went through with it and left her family to follow the prophet.
Wherever she was needed, she volunteered a helping hand. She helped in transcribing for Joseph during translation, she cared for the sick among their many travels, and she was overall a charitable and kind person. Many describe her to be a women of great strength, courage, and fortitude.
Emma played a significant role in establish the Relief Society, as she was the first president of it. She lead the women in understanding their role in the church, to serve and help uplift their fellow saints.
