The First Church Meeting

On April 6, 1830 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day was officially organized. In the home of the Whitmer family, Joseph Smith helped to organize the first church meeting of this dispensation.
Having only thirty members at most, the group came together and agreed to support Joseph Smith as the prophet. This event was primarily significant not for its numbers, but for the meaning behind this meeting, the fact that this was the first group of organized saints since the gospel had been lost nearly two thousand years before with the death of Christ and his apostles.
The meeting was called and Joseph invited everyone to join him in earnest prayer to receive Heavenly Father's blessing in organizing Christ's church again in this way.
Many blessing came to the saints because of their faith this day, but many hardships also followed. Although hardships came, however, the saints took courage as those who had been previously baptized by those holding priesthood authority were able to partake of the sacrament as it was administered for the first time in this dispensation. With these ordinances re-established, the church was able to begin the teaching and practices of Jesus Christ here on the earth once more.

Moroni 6:4,6 (the last book of the Book of Mormon, these outlined verses reference the organization of Christ's church and the blessing and passing of the sacrament)
And after they had been received unto baptism, and were wrought upon and cleansed by the power of the Holy Ghost, they were numbered among the people of the church of Christ; and their names were taken, that they might be remembered and nourished by the good word of God, to keep them in the right way, to keep them continually watchful unto prayer, relying alone upon the merits of Christ, who was the author and the finisher of their faith.
And they did meet together oft to partake of bread and wine, in remembrance of the Lord Jesus.
