The Translation of the Book of Mormon

Translation
A video still by John Luke depicting Joseph Smith sitting at a desk and translating the gold plates, with light streaming through a nearby window.Joseph Smith was given the instruction to take the original plates that Moroni hid for a later time and translate them through the gift and power of God. The translation process is not perfectly known, but from what we understand, the Book of Mormon was translated using seer stones that Joseph received through God's guidance, and he would read or receive revelation while someone else (typically Oliver Cowdery, Emma Smith, and a few others) would write down what he said. This is where we received the Book of Mormon from. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes that it contains the word of God. In Joseph Smith's own words, he said, "a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book" (Introduction to the Book of Mormon).

The Book of Mormon
Also known as Another Testament of Jesus Christ, this book is similarly set up like the Bible with different authors (typically a prophet) who recorded the teachings and history of the gospel during their lifetime. The main event of the Book of Mormon is when Jesus Christ appears to the people in America, following the scripture, "Other sheep I have which are not of this fold" (John 10:16).
